Moving Data Files from Previous Versions of ExamView into ExamView 8.1 on PC

Kevin Herrholtz -

Previous versions of the ExamView Assessment Suite software installed to an ExamView folder on the root of your hard drive. However, ExamView version 8.1 installers follow the software industry install path and install into the Program Files\eInstruction folder. Thus, if you have an earlier version of ExamView on your computer, and you install ExamView version 8.1, the application and data files will install to a different location than your previous files.

The following instructions explain how to move your data files (banks, tests, and classes) to the new location.

  1. Navigate to the previous version of ExamView on your hard drive.

    C:\ExamView

    NOTE

The path may be different than above if the default install path was not used.

  2. Highlight the folders containing the question banks, simultaneously press the Ctrl + X keys on your keyboard and paste ( Ctrl + V) to the new location:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\eInstruction\ExamView\Banks

  3. Highlight the folders containing the tests, simultaneously press the Ctrl + X keys on your keyboard and paste ( Ctrl + V) to the new location:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\eInstruction\ExamView\Tests

  4. Highlight the folders containing the class rosters, simultaneously press the Ctrl + X keys on your keyboard and paste ( Ctrl + V) to the new location:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\eInstruction\ExamView\Classes

  5. Reset the default locations for opening and saving banks and tests.
    1. Open the ExamView Test Generator, click the Edit menu and select Preferences.
    2. Click the Files tab.
    3. Click the Folder icon to browse to and set the default location.
